Language Immersion in English

Building essential vocabulary and establishing a foundation for bilingualism

At Avenues, learning a second language is more than an academic pursuit; it is a daily practice that transforms the way students see and think about the world. In nursery, pre-kindergarten, and kindergarten, students benefit from a 100% English immersion program in which they build essential vocabulary by learning all content in English. The Portuguese language is introduced in 1st grade.

Learning Through Play

The key to child development

Tactile play develops fine and gross motor skills, physical play stimulates growth, and make-believe play accelerates social-emotional learning. Most importantly for us, all kinds of play foster a love of learning that young children will carry with them as they move upwards through school.

The World Course

The path to global citizenship, from nursery to 12th grade

Designed in collaboration with Harvard University, the World Course is a rich, interdisciplinary program of global studies that spirals throughout the Avenues curriculum from nursery to 12th grade. The World Course begins in lower primary with a focus on self and community, fostering self-awareness, a sense of belonging, and the burgeoning worldviews of our littlest learners.

Creative Computation

Empowering students to be creators, not just consumers, of technology

Creative computation at Avenues combines the academic discipline of computer science, the technical skill of coding and the problem-solving process of computational thinking, anchored in the principles of digital citizenship. From kindergarten through 5th grade, students learn to use technology to solve problems while exploring algorithms, modeling and abstraction. In addition to weekly classes, creative computation is integrated into projects across the curriculum.
