WHAT YOU’LL DO
The Athletics and Wellness and Movement (WAM) Coordinator at Avenues Shenzhen plays a central role in advancing the school’s mission by integrating wellness, movement, and athletics into the fabric of student life. This role designs and delivers a dynamic WAM curriculum that emphasizes physical literacy, holistic well-being, and the development of lifelong healthy habits. Through innovative programs, the coordinator fosters teamwork, leadership, and resilience, while ensuring inclusive opportunities for all students to engage in physical activity, wellness initiatives, and competitive athletics. By creating a supportive and empowering environment, the coordinator ensures students thrive physically, emotionally, and socially, preparing them to navigate a globally interconnected world with confidence and vitality.
You will also:
- Develop, innovate and document a holistic curriculum for students
- Coordinate, operationalize and support in the delivery of the production of a thoughtful and engaging WAM program across multiple grades and divisions
- Act as a team leader when necessary and a follower when appropriate; support and coach WAM faculty in their growth as professionals
- Ensure that students achieve key learning outcomes in wellness and movement, targeting instruction thoughtfully to address diverse individual needs
- Grow the WAM program over time, working closely with division leaders and other Avenues WAM teachers
- Support and champion the work of interdisciplinary projects
- Build a robust learning atmosphere that leads students to feel part of a rigorous but joyful learning
- Lead the development and management of competitive athletics programs, including team training, scheduling, and participation in local and regional leagues, ensuring they align with Avenues Shenzhen’s mission and values while fostering a culture of sportsmanship, excellence, and personal growth
- Manage and maintain athletic facilities and equipment, ensuring a safe, functional, and inspiring environment for all WAM and athletics activities
- Support the professional development of coaches, both faculty and external vendors, providing guidance and resources to enhance the quality and impact of the WAM and athletics program
WHAT YOU BRING
- Experience teaching physical education and/or health (3+ years)
- Strong knowledge base in wellness practices, physical education and exercise science
- Strong speaking, listening and demonstrative skills in large group settings
- Experience designing and implementing curriculum
- Profound commitment to ensuring and nurturing children's wellbeing
- Highly effective collaborator, eager to listen deeply, contribute to a team and achieve goals together
- Dedication to learning and developing the craft of teaching
- Very resourceful and adaptive, eager to embrace constant change, growth and learning
- Experience in coordinating athletics programs, including organizing inter-school competitions, managing teams, and collaborating with other schools
- Proven ability to multitask and prioritize effectively, balancing multiple demands while maintaining high standards of excellence
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience working collaboratively with coaches, faculty, students, parents, and external partners to build a cohesive and supportive athletics community
- A track record of fostering sportsmanship and teamwork, with the ability to inspire student-athletes to excel both on and off the field while upholding the values of fair play and respect
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, ensuring seamless coordination of events, schedules, and resources
- Bachelor’s degree; graduate degree in education or related field is ideal
- Professional fluency in English; Mandarin Chinese is a plus
